ArmInfo. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a meeting with Armenian Parliament Speaker Allen Simonyan in Moscow, called accusations against the Russian side of its intention to interfere in Armenia's electoral processes strange.
The Russian Foreign Minister understood that domestic political processes always take on a special dimension and generate heightened interest from external forces in the lead- up to elections. "You are essentially beginning an election campaign in preparation for parliamentary elections, and I can simply assure you that when signals are heard from abroad that someone is planning to interfere, with obvious pressure on the Russian Federation, and when calls are made from Yerevan to the European Union to help us prevent such interference, this is strange to us, and I have no doubt that responsible politicians in Yerevan are aware that these approaches are being made with openly provocative intentions," Lavrov said.
It is worth noting that the European Union previously announced it would provide ?15 million in aid to Armenia to combat hybrid threats in the run-up to parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026. European officials stated that this aid is being provided in response to a request from the Armenian authorities to assist in countering threats emanating from Russia.
