ArmInfo. The Armenian Court of Appeals will announce its decision on the motion filed by Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan's lawyers to lift his pretrial detention on February 6. Following lengthy deliberations, Presiding Judge Edgar Manasyan adjourned the session today as the working day came to a close.
It should be noted that earlier today, the defense has requested the cancellation of the Archbishop's detention, given his current health condition, his upcoming second surgery, and the risks associated with returning to the penitentiary after the operation.
Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, head of the Shirak Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, was sentenced to two years in prison by a Yerevan court in October 2025. He was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code of Armenian for public calls for the seizure of power, call for the violation of territorial integrity and violent overthrow of the constitutional order.
