ArmInfo. Relatives of fallen Armenian servicemen held a protest outside the Armenian presidential residence on Baghramyan Street, demanding a public apology from President Vahagn Khachaturyan for his "serenades" to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during discussions held on the sidelines of the Davos International Economic Forum.
Protesters arrived at the presidential residence with posters that read: "Our pain is not your diplomacy!", "Thank you- in Davos, the answer- in Yerablur!", and "Thank you to Aliyev-a political shame!" Ruzanna Stepanyan, coordinator of the Pan-Armenian Front movement, when speaking to reporters, emphasized that such behavior by the Armenian president is unacceptable. She noted that they will not allow officials to express gratitude for "peace" or tell lies on behalf of the Armenian people. "If he expressed his gratitude in Davos, then at the Yerablur military pantheon, we expect him to answer for his actions," Stepanyan noted.
Meanwhile, Meri Avagyan, mother of serviceman Robert Gevorgyan, who died on September 13, 2022, in Kapan (Azerbaijan attacked in the directions of Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik on September 13, 2022 - ed.), noted that the president is effectively thanking Aliyev for the so-called peace, and a few days later appears at the Yerablur military pantheon. She emphasized that this entire situation fills her with shame, as the current government is the face of the country.
"This is the country that our children held at the cost of their lives; their blood hasn't even cooled yet. However, besides the fact that they (the Armenian authorities - ed.) lost part of our homeland, they also say thank you for it. They've publicly disgraced us. This is simply unacceptable. We're not even a victorious country. I feel ashamed for this," the mother of the fallen soldier said with indignation.
During the protest, Stepanyan also announced that they had handed over a letter to the presidential residence, but on a different issue. She explained that through the letter, they wanted to clarify the president's reaction to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's anti-church campaign and the behavior of Armenian judges. Following the protest at the presidential residence, the protesters headed to Yerablur to pay their respects to all fallen Armenian servicemen.
Recall, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, during the discussions at the World Economic Forum in Davos, thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev several times for "peace." In his speech, he stated that the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have demonstrated political will and courage to take steps to strengthen peace, something that had not been achieved in over 30 years. He noted that while this would have been difficult to imagine just a couple of years ago, cargo is now being shipped from Azerbaijan to Armenia via Georgia. The president expressed confidence that a time will come when the countries will be able to send cargo directly to each other. He thanked both sides and acknowledged the role of US President Donald Trump, who "has taken responsibility for organizing the signing of the agreements."
