Invitations are extended to all 196 countries and Armenia is ready to host all delegations and countries for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), as stated by Armenian Minister of Environment Hambartsum Matevosyan in response to a question about Azerbaijan's possible participation in COP17 during a year- end press conference.
"This is a global event, organized by Armenia and the UN. All countries are aware of the dates and events, but official invitations have not yet been sent. However, all relevant national authorities have been notified, and I believe a significant participation of ministers and high-ranking officials is expected. However, it is too early to say who exactly will attend. Invitations are being extended in collaboration with the UN," the Minister clarified. When asked whether an invitation to Azerbaijan is planned, the official answered affirmatively. He also emphasized that no country participating in the COP17 process can be left out.
Matevosyan also noted that the presidency and coordination of processes will extend through 2028, enabling Armenia to become a key hub for the development of the Convention's policies. In this regard, the he also reported that, by government decision, 5 billion 775 million drams have been allocated for the reconstruction and improvement of the area this year.
