ArmInfo. During the upcoming visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance visit to Yerevan, the Armenian side must exert maximum effort to secure the release of Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijani prisons. Armen Ashotyan, Vice Chairman of the Republican Party, shared this statement on his Facebook page.
"It has become known that in February, the U.S. Vice President will visit not only Armenia but also Azerbaijan. While I am putting aside the asymmetry of the agendas for the visits to Yerevan and Baku- though this too is a result of a failed foreign policy-I believe we should maximize Armenian potential and raise the issue of the release of our prisoners of war and the military-political leadership of Artsakh," the politician noted.
He recalled that the US President's special envoy had secured the release of several dozen Belarusian political prisoners in Minsk several months ago. Ashotyan believes a similar scenario is possible for both Aliyev and Pashinyan.
"In Azerbaijan, the protection of the rights of Armenian Christians, and in Armenia, at the very least, the rights of the clergy, aligns with both Vance's personal worldview and that of the Trump administration. It remains for us, in Armenia and the Diaspora, to work purposefully in this direction. I am confident that we can derive benefit from Vance's visit in the context of the release of our compatriots," the RPA Vice- President wrote.
