ArmInfo. All qualified personnel in the public administration system must be well compensated. This was stated by Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of Armenia's ruling Civil Contract faction, at a briefing on January 22, responding to a question about Narek Karapetyan, coordinator of the "Our Way" initiative, intending to work for one dram if elected prime minister.
As a reminder, just before the New Year, Armenian civil servants received substantial bonuses ranging from 5 to 7 million drams ($12,000-$16,000), which sparked discontent among the opposition, including the "Our Way" movement.
According to Artur Hovhannisyan, substantial bonuses should become the norm for civil servants who perform their work at a high professional level and provide excellent services. This is also necessary to avoid corruption risks. "Regarding Narek Karapetyan's statement, it's unclear who will pay for this person's daily needs, provide them with food and clothing. The answers to these questions lead to others providing the funding, and, as a consequence, others will use these individuals to govern the state. It's clear that such a mechanism leads to shady paths. For this reason, statements about a single dram are primitive and dangerous," noted the ruling party MP.
In turn, Taguhi Ghazaryan, a member of the National Assembly from the same faction, called on media representatives to investigate and determine the tax benefits received by Tashir Group. "Whether we're talking about a single dram or several billion drams, such decisions are periodically made at RA government meetings," the MP emphasized, pointing out that government employees should be paid from the people's tax funds in order to serve the interests of those same people.
