
ArmInfo.Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sent a telegram of condolences to his Spanish counterpart, Pedro Sanchez, following the tragic incident that occurred in the south of the country, which resulted in numerous casualties.
According to the Armenian Prime Minister's press service, the telegram of condolences reads, in part: "I learned with deep sorrow of the tragic incident that occurred in the province of Cordoba, Kingdom of Spain, which resulted in the loss of numerous lives.
On behalf of the people of the Republic of Armenia and myself, I express my condolences and sympathy to you and the friendly people of Spain. In this difficult time, I express my support to the families and relatives of the victims, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured."
According to media reports, on January 19, a major train accident occurred in the municipality of Adamus (province of Cordoba), Spain: two high-speed trains collided and derailed. At least 39 people were killed in a road accident, with over 150 injured.
According to Azbuka Espana, the two trains involved were an Iryo train traveling from Malaga to Madrid, and an Alvia train traveling from Madrid to Huelva. According to preliminary reports, one of the trains derailed, followed by a collision. The first two carriages of Alvia train No. 2384 fell off a slope approximately four meters high. The final death toll has not yet been determined. At the time of the accident, there were nearly 500 passengers on board the trains: approximately 300 on the Iryo train and 184 on the Alvia train. Iryo reported that the last technical inspection of the train, built in 2022, was carried out on January 15 - just four days before the tragedy. Spanish authorities have declared a national day of mourning.
