ArmInfoThe Assembly of Bishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) will be held February 16-19 in the Austrian city of St. Polten. It will be convened at the invitation of His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II.
As Priest Yesayi Artenyan, Director of the Information System of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin, told Armenian media, any council body of the AAC, with the exception of the National Church Assembly, can convene its meetings anywhere. He added that there have been similar precedents. "Based on the above, at the invitation of His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, the Assembly of Bishops will be held February 16-19 in the Austrian city of St. Polten," Artenyan stated.
The bishops' meeting was scheduled to take place in early December 2025 in the Mother See of Etchmiadzin, but it was postponed indefinitely due to concerns that Armenian authorities would arrest some clergy as part of the anti-church campaign initiated by current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Pashinyan aims to remove the Catholicos and subordinate the Church to the state.
