ArmInfo. Azerbaijan's SOCAR began supplying natural gas to Austria and Germany in January 2026, Trend reports, citing the company.
This gas is transported via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor, which passes through Georgia.
"SOCAR is taking the next important step in exporting Azerbaijani gas. Starting in January 2026, Azerbaijani gas will be supplied to customers not only in other countries in the region, but also in Austria and Germany," the company emphasized.
The deliveries via Italy to Austria and Germany bring the number of countries buying Azerbaijani gas to 16. SOCAR notes that it continues to expand its gas marketing in Europe and the Middle East.
Azerbaijani gas exports to Europe via TAP began on December 31, 2020. The pipeline's initial capacity was 10 billion cubic meters per year, but can be increased to 20 billion cubic meters. In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the European Commission agreed to double gas supplies to Europe by 2027.
In 2025, Azerbaijan produced 51.5 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 12.8 billion cubic meters were supplied to Europe, 9.6 billion to Turkey, 2.3 billion to Georgia, and 0.5 billion to Syria.
