ArmInfo. Bishop Gevorg Saroyan has filed a lawsuit against the Armenian Apostolic Church. This was reported in a statement posted on the Datalex legal documents system.
According to the source, the bishop is asking the court to invalidate the decree of His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, issued on January 10, 2026, which removed him from his position as Primate of the Masiatsotn Diocese. The lawsuit was submitted to the Armavir Regional Court on January 15 and was signed by Judge Edgar Hovhannisyan.
It is noteworthy that this is the first time a lawsuit has been filed against the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is separate from the state. Earlier, the Chancellery of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin issued a statement citing abuse of office, improper performance of duties, and instances of coercion and pressure against the diocesan clergy as grounds for Saroyan's dismissal. Bishop Gevorg Saroyan is among the bishops who, along with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, signed the statement on the renewal of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
