ArmInfo. Armenia will not take any steps against Iran's national security and expects the same from Iran, as stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a press briefing on January 15.
Commenting, at the media's request, on Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami's statement that the Armenian authorities are deaf to their complaints about protests taking place outside the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan, he noted that the state is very attentive to statements coming from Iran. "We have done everything and will continue to do everything to dispel all concerns of our brotherly and friendly country," he noted. However, the Prime Minister noted that rallies have never been banned anywhere in Armenia since 2018, and the state cannot act differently in any given case. However, the authorities intend to closely monitor developments. "In line with our democratic principles, we will ensure and take all measures to ensure that no problems arise for the activities of the Embassy of brotherly Iran. Conversely, appropriate proceedings will be initiated against those who violate the law," the Prime Minister said, noting that administrative proceedings have already been initiated in several cases.
When asked whether the TRIPP project had been discussed with Iran, Pashinyan stated that lengthy and detailed discussions took place during the Iranian president's official visit to Armenia in August of last year. The Armenian side had provided answers to all questions raised and is prepared to continue doing so, if necessary. "I want to say that we take into account the opinions and concerns of our international partners. And in our negotiations, we try to reach balanced solutions, which I think were achieved in this case," the head of government said.
