On January 14, RA Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan participated in a meeting of the Council's Working Group on Women's Issues, held at the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and delivered a welcoming speech. The meeting also features remarks by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Tatevik Stepanyan, the RA MFA press service reported.
The Deputy Foreign Minister stated that Armenia is committed to promoting gender equality and protecting women's rights, highlighting several achievements in this area. He mentioned the adoption of the Third National Action Plan "Women, Peace, and Security" and the creation of a national mechanism designed to strengthen international accountability for human rights. In the context of efforts aimed at advancing gender equality, Robert Abisoghomonyan highlighted Armenia's ongoing active and constructive cooperation with international human rights structures and organizations, both within the UN and in regional structures. In this context, upcoming processes were presented, and the significance of two international monitoring groups scheduled to visit Armenia in the first half of 2026 was emphasized, with the goal of improving gender equality policies and ensuring compliance with international standards.
In his speech, the Deputy Minister also touched upon the preparatory work for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, to be held in Yerevan in 2026. He emphasized the importance of promoting women's participation and leadership, ensuring that women and girls are not just participants but leaders in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The government is also pushing for full engagement of women in education, technology, and all levels of public and political life as a core component of sustainable development.
