ArmInfo. (RBC). The United States has succeeded in almost completely shutting down the maritime drug trafficking route from Venezuela to the country, and now the goal is to make it impossible to ship drugs by land from Mexico. US President Donald Trump stated this in an interview with the Fox News program "Hannity."
According to him, the US has destroyed almost all drug-laden boats leaving Venezuela, and now boats are afraid to even go fishing in the area.
He noted that the land border with Mexico has long been a chaotic zone. "The first time (during my first presidential term – RBC), I very quickly brought order there, and this time I did it even better, because the situation was much worse. It was a border that probably had never existed in the history of the world. There has never been a border like this where anyone could simply enter your country. Now the borders are essentially truly closed. Closed. "You can't get in, and no one's getting in. No one's even trying," Trump described the situation.
He added that Americans living in Texas, Arizona, and other states near the border are "extremely happy about the situation."
After the successful operation in Venezuela, Trump didn't rule out a similar scenario for Colombia. "Colombia is also very sick, run by a sick man who loves to produce cocaine and sell it to the United States, and he can't do that for much longer," the White House chief said at the time.
Cleaning up the southern border with Mexico was one of the main themes of Trump's first presidency and his tough fight against Democrats, who advocated an open border. During his first term (2016–2020), Trump launched a large-scale project—the construction of a wall along the entire border with Mexico. However, in the midterm elections, Democrats managed to seize control of the House of Representatives and block funding for this project, which was never completed.
