ArmInfo. Recently, the issue of so-called "unjustified" dismissals during the reign of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has been unfoundedly speculated upon, with exaggerated figures being published. This was stated in a statement by the Mother See of Etchmiadzin.
The reality is as follows: during the 26 years of the Catholicos's reign, 101 clergy were dismissed, of whom 38 left their ministry voluntarily, 27 voluntarily, 15 based on petitions submitted by diocesan leaders, and 21 directly by the Patriarch.
In 2011, at the initiative and direction of Karekin II, the Commission on Awards and Disciplinary Matters was created to study similar issues affecting the clergy.
During the 26 years of the Patriarch's reign, 491 clergy were ordained, who today serve in the dioceses of Armenia and the Diaspora.
