ArmInfo. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas made a sincere confession, pledging that the European Union will assist Armenia in the 2026 parliamentary elections by combating "harmful foreign interference, as was done in Moldova," as stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated, according to RIA Novosti.
On December 2, Kallas announced that the European Union would allocate 15 million euros to Armenia "for sustainable peace and to build a more resilient Armenia." According to her, these funds will be used for various initiatives, including demining training and equipment, as well as confidence-building measures in the region, and "identifying, analyzing, and responding to foreign interference." A joint statement following a meeting between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and EU leadership noted that the EU reaffirms its support for "Armenia's efforts to counter hybrid threats."
"Kaja Kallas publicly promised that the European Union 'will help Armenia combat harmful foreign interference, as we did in Moldova.' A sincere confession, an admission of guilt," Lavrov said at a meeting of the United Russia party's General Council Committee on International Cooperation. The Russian Foreign Minister noted that the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) has long been turned into an instrument of political pressure, emphasizing that the reports produced by these election observation missions within the ODIHR are dictated by geopolitical considerations.
"If a non-Western candidate wins, the harshest assessments are made, even to the point of demanding a rerun. If someone actively 'promoted' by the West wins, then it's hailed as a 'triumph of democracy.' These election reports are prepared in advance. Everyone knows this. All of this is described by the EU as the 'gold standard of electoral observation,'" he clarified.
