
ArmInfo. On December 17, David Arakelyan, Chief of Staff and Secretary General of the National Assembly, met with Eva Sundquist, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Yerevan.
According to the NA press service, welcoming the guest to parliament, David Arakelyan congratulated Eva Sundqvist on the start of her important diplomatic mission in the country. "Sweden is an important and reliable partner for Armenia, and we attach great importance to further expanding political dialogue with this friendly country," the Chief of Staff of the National Assembly noted, emphasizing that Armenian- Swedish relations have experienced a significant upswing in recent years. According to David Arakelyan, Sweden is also an important partner in the context of Armenia's relations with the EU.
According to the Chief of Staff, Armenia consistently continues to implement reforms in the areas of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law and highly values Sweden's continued support for the ongoing reforms in Armenia.
Speaking about cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Swedish Riksdag in the area of democratic development for 2024-2026, David Arakelyan expressed gratitude to the Swedish side for this initiative. "We highly value the UNDP 'New Armenia - Modern Parliament' program, which makes a significant contribution to our efforts to increase the transparency, effectiveness, and accountability of the National Assembly, as well as to the creation of a comprehensive and effective system of good governance in our country," the Chief of Staff emphasized. He added that, thanks to this program, parliamentary staff has strengthened ties with the Swedish Riksdag Research Center.
David Arakelyan presented the National Assembly's strategy, developed with the support of the "New Armenia - Modern Parliament 2.0" program, and emphasized Sweden's participation in the "Syunik Sustainable Team in Europe" initiative, which is important from a security, economic, and environmental perspective. During the meeting, the hosting of the 8th European Political Community Summit and the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Armenia in 2026 was discussed.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, the Ambassador spoke about the effective cooperation between the Armenian and Swedish parliaments in recent years. Eva Sundquist emphasized the importance of frequent bilateral visits to deepen bilateral ties.
