ArmInfo. The year 2025 will mark a significant milestone for Armenian-Chinese relations, as the bilateral relations between the countries will be elevated to a new level, as stated by Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Li Xinwei in an interview with journalists at the conference "Strengthening Chinese-Armenia Strategic Partnership: A Dialogue on Governance Experience Exchange."
One of the key events of the year, the ambassador noted, was Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's visit to China. Li Xinwei mentioned that during the visit, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with the Armenian Prime Minister, and the two sides announced the establishment of a strategic partnership. "During this meeting, memoranda of cooperation in various areas were also signed. Another important event is Armenia's accession to the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The Chinese side is ready to support Armenia in this process, which creates a solid foundation for the further development of our relations," the Ambassador emphasized.
Li Xinwei noted that bilateral ties between the countries have developed rapidly in 2025. The Ambassador cited a 22.5% increase in trade turnover between the countries, as well as the number of flights, as indicators of this development. "Previously, the Armenian people perceived China as a distant, inaccessible country, but now flights have become easier, and you can be in China in just four hours," Li Xinwei said.
The Ambassador also noted the increase in the number of tourists: 34,000 tourists from China have visited Armenia in just a few months, which, according to him, is a good indicator. "We hope that cooperation in tourism between our countries will continue to develop, and the interest of Chinese tourists in Armenia will grow even further," the Ambassador noted.
He also expressed satisfaction with the interest shown by Armenian youth in learning Chinese. After all, as the Ambassador noted, both Armenian and Chinese are difficult languages. " I am confident that Armenian youth who speak their native language will be able to successfully master Chinese. 1.4 billion people worldwide speak Chines, and Armenian youth will become part of this vast community, opening up new employment opportunities for them. China and Armenia are ancient civilizations with rich histories. In this changing world, both countries strive for development and share a common goal-to make their citizens' lives happier. I am confident that by enhancing bilateral relations, we will be able to achieve significant results that will benefit our peoples," Li Xinwei concluded.
It should be noted that, according to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and China for January-October 2025 exceeded $2.1 billion, with a year-on-year decline of 9.1%. Specifically, exports amounted to $570.9 million (with a year-on-year decline of 42.2%), and imports amounted to $1.6 billion (with a year-on-year increase of 15.3%). China is among Armenia's top 5 trading partners.
