ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities' anti-church policy is deeply concerning, especially given the grave situation in the country, as stated by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II at the Srbots Targmanchats Church in Marseille.
"Today, our Homeland and the Armenian Church are going through difficulties and great trials. Over the past five years, we have witnessed the Artsakh War, the dearmenization of Artsakh, and the destruction of our spiritual and cultural heritage as a result of the policies pursued by Azerbaijan. The hearts of our nation's children still bleed, and the issues of protecting the rights of Armenians in Artsakh, the release of Armenians held captive in Azerbaijan, and ending the ongoing cultural genocide remain unresolved," the Catholicos of All Armenians stated. Karekin II talked about upon the anti-church actions of the Armenian authorities, calling them extremely worrying. In this regard, he pointed out the pressure exerted by the Armenian authorities on high-ranking clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church. He recalled the arrests of clergy and citizens who support the Armenian Apostolic Church. The Catholicos expressed hope that this trial, through the unity and faith of the people, will be overcome and the malicious attacks will be neutralized.
