ArmInfo. The Criminal Correctional Service has initiated a case against Postanjyan under Part 1 of Article 186 of the RA Code of Administrative Offenses. The decision was made following an incident that occurred during Zaruhi Postanjyan's visit to the Armavir Penitentiary.
According to the service, on November 30, at around 1:50 PM, lawyer Zaruhi Postanjyan visited the Armavir Penitentiary for a meeting with her client. During a search, an iPhone 7 mobile phone was found and seized by criminal investigation officers. To prevent any disruption to the meeting between the lawyer and her client, a report on the phone found during the search was planned to be completed only after the meeting (the report is signed by those conducting the search and, if necessary, by the person being questioned). Due to the latter's refusal to sign the protocol, a corresponding notation was made in the report. Postanjyan was also informed that after the administrative offense case was concluded, the mobile phone, which was the direct object of the offense, would be returned to her. However, she refused to participate in the preparation of the protocol, took the mobile phone she had surrendered at the entrance, and left the area. She began filming the events at the entrance with her phone, violated safety regulations, made noise, accused correctional facility staff of stealing the phone, and then left the facility.
After the incident, a correctional facility staff member contacted Postanjyan, calling twice and offering to return to the facility to participate in the report's preparation, after which the phone would be returned. However, she again refused, stating that she would file a complaint with law enforcement agencies.
Based on the above, the Armavir Penitentiary Institution has initiated a case against Zaruhi Postanjyan under Part 1 of Article 186 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code (transfer of a prohibited item or an attempt to transfer it in any form to a person held in a correctional facility). A corresponding petition has been submitted to the RA Bar Association to investigate her actions in accordance with the Code of Conduct for Advocates.
