ArmInfo. The court hearing in the case of the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, former CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, former Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, and former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan was brief today. Yuri Khachaturov did not receive the indictment in a language he understood.
During the previous hearing, State Prosecutor Hayk Hovhannisyan presented the court with the text of the new indictment. Yuri Khachaturov, however, demanded a Russian-language version. The court immediately handed over the text for translation after the hearing, but it had not yet been provided for today's hearing. Judge Sargis Petrosyan tried to explain to Khachaturov that if he read the Russian version of the text after receiving it, the hearing would be adjourned. However, if he reads it through his lawyer, Mihran Poghosyan, rather than reading it in person, the hearing could continue, since his lawyer had already received the Armenian version of the indictment.
"If you want to read the case in person, the court will not restrict your rights. However, if you choose not to read it, it will simply become a formality. If we translate three volumes, give them to you, and at the next hearing you declare that you haven't read them and don't plan to, what should we do?" the court asked.
"I'll tell you one thing: you've been getting on our nerves for so many years, why can't I do the same for you? Translate it, and then we'll talk?" Khachaturov said, noting that he would like to receive the translation before the hearing. In response, the judge warned that upon receiving the text, the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces would be questioned, putting him in an awkward position if he couldn't answer. "I'm not your student, so while you're asking me questions; I will answer," Khachaturov responded.
Consequently, the court hearing was postponed until December 17.
