During a meeting with the Swiss Ambassador to the Republic, Andrea Barbara Baumann, Armenian Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan expressed gratitude to the Swiss side for its assistance during the post-disaster recovery efforts in the Lori region, particularly in the construction of bridges, as well as for assistance to displaced persons.
According to the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sargsyan noted the importance of exploring prospects for expanding cooperation. She emphasized the strengthening of the partnership with the Geneva Security Management Centre and the need for active interaction in the lead-up to the Conference of the Parties (COP-17).
Baumann, in turn, noted that the Swiss government supports the process of establishing peace and normalizing relations in the region.
Speaking about the Armenia-EU dialogue, the Ambassador congratulated the Armenian side on receiving the EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan and emphasized Armenia's responsible commitment to this path. The Swiss Ambassador also praised the work of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Rescue Service during the firefighting efforts from November 21-27 and expressed condolences over the death of a firefighter.
The importance of Switzerland's mentorship of Armenia within the UN International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) and the need for continued training in this context were also emphasized. As part of the fight against climate change, opportunities for cooperation in disaster risk management, human rights protection, and other issues were discussed.
