ArmInfo. Unknown individuals smashed the windows of a car used by Manuk Sukiasyan, head of the Mother Armenia faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders. This is the second time that Sukiasyan's car has been damaged.
As Sukiasyan himself recounted in a live broadcast on his Facebook page, the incident occurred after his speech at a hearing in the National Assembly of Armenia. He claimed that the unknown individuals smashed the windows, but again, nothing was stolen. Therefore, he expressed his belief that the incident had political overtones and was an attempt to curtail his activities.
He also recalled that the first incident occurred last summer; windows were smashed, but nothing was stolen from the car. "At the time, I thought it was ordinary hooliganism. However, even then, I began to suspect that what happened might be related to my political activities," the head of the opposition faction said. "What's happening is nothing more than an act of meanness and fear on the part of the current government. Responsibility for what happened lies on their shoulders, as this is the second such incident with a similar pattern. Thus, they continue to create an atmosphere of fear. They instill in people a 'velvet fear' in a situation where the country has become an epicenter of drug trafficking and gambling," the faction leader stated.
In connection with the situation, Sukiasyan also recalled the arson attack on the family car of Gevorg Stepanyan, a member of the Mother Armenia faction in the Yerevan Council of Elders. He noted that many such cases go unsolved and expressed confidence that his case will also go unaddressed.
