ArmInfo. Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan believes that Armenia has effectively withdrawn from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), as he stated in a conversation with reporters on November 26.
However, Simonyan doesn't believe that leaving the CSTO indicates anti-Russian sentiment. "Let's put aside the names. Let's say you're a member of an organization, for example, a union of journalists, and that organization doesn't fulfill its obligations and you want to leave. Does that mean you're anti-journalist? No," he pointed out.
When asked why Armenia hasn't de jure withdrawn from the CSTO, he replied, "We have effectively withdrawn from it."
"As for the rest, let's leave it to our political expediency and our negotiations. They said we can't negotiate after a war; leave that to those who don't negotiate. And in 2026, you'll go and say we're not leaving the CSTO, and people will respond to your narrative of not leaving the CSTO," Alen Simonyan said.
