ArmInfo. Hayk Mamijanyan, the head of the "With Honor" faction, called the international response to the situation with the political prisoner in Armenia insufficient. Speaking to journalists, he noted that there are currently approximately 40 political prisoners in the country.
According to the opposition leader, the response is either nonexistent or unsatisfactory. He suggested that the silence may be due to the fact that "Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan obediently serves the interests of several geopolitical centers."
Mamijanyan also spoke about the efforts made by the European People's Party (EPP) on this issue. "The EPP has adopted a resolution regarding political prisoners in Armenia. This important document was adopted at the suggestion of the Armenian side and clearly indicates the existence of political prisoners in Armenia, including a nominal reference to the issue of Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
The International Union of Centrist Democrats (CDI) has also responded. It always varies, and so far, it's insufficient for a country with approximately 40 political prisoners. However, despite this, we continue to monitor the situation and raise these issues," Mamijanyan noted.
The MP also emphasized that regardless of the benefit these actions bring-whether through hearings or appeals to international organizations-they must be permanent. "The lack of a response does not mean we should cease our work in this regard. We must fulfill our obligations, despite the cynical silence of international organizations," Mamijanyan stated. Touching on today's parliamentary hearings on political prisoners in Armenia, the faction leader emphasized that any action taken on this issue is, first and foremost, a human duty, and only then a political one. "Each of us could find ourselves in the shoes of a political prisoner, and therefore we are obligated to use all possible means to raise this issue," the politician concluded.
