ArmInfo. The Armenian Criminal Police have uncovered and suspended the fourth criminal "call center" this year. The press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs police reported this to ArmInfo.
It is noted that police officers and the Investigative Committee of Armenia managed to uncover yet another criminal organization thanks to information received by the Criminal Police Department for Combating Cybercrime and a surprise search that caught the criminals off guard.
Hayk Mkrtchyan, Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Cybercrime Department, reported that this information revealed that a group of individuals, by prior conspiracy, rented office space in a commercial building operating in Yerevan's Arabkir district, set it up as a criminal "call center," and committed computer theft on an especially large scale. "Favorable conditions were created for the theft of funds from citizens located in foreign countries using internet phone calls and remotely accessible computers," the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained.
According to the source, members of the criminal organization, who are citizens of Armenia and other countries, as well as the computer equipment they used, were discovered during the search. "The criminal police are actively cooperating with law enforcement agencies in foreign countries to obtain information about individuals who have suffered as a result of the criminal organization's actions abroad," the ministry reported.
The Ministry also called on Armenian citizens to exercise extreme vigilance, warning that participation in the activities of such "call centers" entails criminal liability.
