"It is with deep sorrow that we learned of the passing of legendary coach and great football star Nikita Simonyan. For decades, his name was synonymous with football for us. Nikita Simonyan always shon- as a player, coach, and official- inscribing his name in golden letters in the history of Armenian and Soviet football. Under his leadership, he gave Armenian fans the victories of Ararat-73, becoming the pride of the entire nation. It is especially admirable that Nikita Simonyan remained involved in daily football work until his last days and dedicated himself entirely to the game, constantly demonstrating his amazing modesty and strength of spirit. Nikita Simonyan's football legacy and personal qualities will remain an unwavering example of the highest sporting and human values. On behalf of the Football Federation of Armenia and the Armenian football family, I extend my deepest condolences to Nikita Simonyan's family, loved ones, and everyone associated with his name and work," Armen Melikbekyan's statement reads. It should be noted that, according to a statement from the Football Federation of Armenia, Armenian Football Championship matches will begin with a minute of silence in honor of the death of the 1956 Olympic champion Nikita Simonyan.
"In memory of the Armenian football legend, the postponed match of the third round of the Premier League, the 15th round, and all matches of the 17th round of the First League will begin with a minute of silence. Teams will take the field wearing black armbands," the FFA statement reads.
