ArmInfo. Armenian authorities want to regulate the issue of traffic violations committed by foreign citizens. At its November 24 session, the National Assembly Committee on State and Legal Affairs approved the government-submitted amendments to the law "On the Peculiarities of Administrative Offense Proceedings for Traffic Violations Captured with the Use of Video or Photography."
According to RA Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan, a provision is currently in effect requiring a foreign citizen who causes a traffic accident in a vehicle unregistered in Armenia, which is captured on video or photography, to pay a fine at the border upon exiting the country. Customs services receive the relevant notification and take the necessary measures. However, there are also cases where violations are committed using a vehicle registered in the country. In this case, a notification is sent to the vehicle owner, who, in turn, notifies them that they have leased the car to a foreigner. In this situation, the notification is sent to the foreigner's country of citizenship. Typically, Armenia loses approximately 90 million drams annually from these transactions. Now, a proposal is being made to require that fines for violations committed by foreigners be paid at the country's borders, especially since violations are typically few in number.
