ArmInfo. As a result of large-scale operative - intelligence measures, conducted by the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, a large- scale drug smuggling case from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia was uncovered and prevented, as reported by the NSS of the Republic of Armenia.
Specifically, as noted in the report, as a result of comprehensive investigative operations, it was revealed that Armenian citizens A.M. and S.S., in collusion with an Iranian citizen, smuggled a significant amount of narcotics from Iran to Armenia on November 10 of this year for sale. Members of the criminal group, after receiving the aforementioned batch of narcotics from an Iranian citizen in the Armenian-Iranian border zone, attempted to transport it to Yerevan, but were detained by NSS officers.
Based on the report of the crime and supporting materials, the Syunik Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia initiated a criminal case. A search of A.M.'s vehicle led to the seizure of 26 kilograms of narcotics (4,690 kg of methamphetamine and 20,842 kg of marijuana). Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the two Armenian citizens under various articles of the Criminal Code.
Pre-trial detention has been chosen for A.M. and S.S. Due to the high degree of danger of the crime, the criminal proceedings were transferred from the Syunik Regional Investigative Department to the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee. During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, searches were conducted at the residences of persons involved in criminal activity, resulting in a discovery of two pistols with five loaded cartridges, various doses of narcotics intended for sale, as well as counterfeit banknotes, suspicious vials, electronic scales and used syringes.
