


ArmInfo. Major General Zaven Nanyan, a dedicated man, skilled organizer, and man of noble character, has passed away at the age of 65. The Union of Reserve Officers of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia reported this.
"He left behind a bright legacy, demonstrating what a true citizen and officer should be. The Union of Reserve Officers of the National Security Service expresses its condolences to the family, loved ones, colleagues, and acquaintances of Zaven Nanyan," the statement read.
It is also noted that Nanyan was born on November 27, 1959, in the village of Shahumyan. In 1976, he graduated with honors from Charentsavan Secondary School No. 3, then entered the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute, from which he graduated with honors. From 1981 to 1983, he worked in his field. In 1983, he was drafted into the State Security Committee (KGB). In 1985, he completed an internship at the USSR KGB Special School in Tashkent.
Having progressed through the ranks of the service, demonstrating impeccable conduct and high professionalism, Nanyan rose from operative to head of the Main Directorate of the SNB, becoming a major general in the security service. For his services to the Motherland, he was awarded the Medal "For Courage," 1st Class (2006), and was also awarded the title of "Honorary Officer of the SNB." Due to health problems, he was demobilized in 2010 and retired.
