ArmInfo.Armenian-Georgian relations, based on centuries-old history and traditions, as well as mutual respect, hold particular importance for Armenia and the Armenian people. The frequency of high-level and senior visits, as well as the recent bilateral contacts, clearly demonstrates the depth of relations between the two countries, as was stated by RA President Vahagn Khachaturyan during a joint briefing with Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili in Tbilisi.
"The close cooperation between our countries has brought us to a historic milestone, elevating our collaboration to the level of a strategic partnership. While it's no secret that our cooperation with Georgia has always been strategic in nature, it has now been formalized. Today, I had very productive and meaningful talks with my esteemed colleague. During our talks with President Kavelashvili, we discussed issues of bilateral multisectoral cooperation and future steps to enhance the strategic partnership between Armenia and Georgia.
Our discussions also focused on bilateral economic cooperation, as well as a wide range of issues related to transport, tourism, energy, business, investment, culture, education, and youth issues. I would like to note that Armenia is actively preparing to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-17) and the 8th European Political Community Summit in 2026. We look forward to the participation of the Georgian side," the President of Armenia stated.
He also reported that in addition to discussing issues on the bilateral agenda, regional events were also discussed. "I presented the results of the trilateral meeting in Washington on August 8 and the economic opportunities that will arise from unlocking regional infrastructure. This process is fully consistent with the vision of the Armenian government's Crossroads of Peace initiative. Institutionalizing peace and connectivity in the region based on the fundamental principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, equality, and reciprocity is a priority for Armenia. We are confident that the establishment of long-term peace and stability between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the full unblocking of transport and communication routes in the region, including within the framework of the TRIPP project, will transform the South Caucasus into an effective transit and logistics hub, promoting regional and global connectivity.
Opening regional communications will also provide Georgia with access to the Persian Gulf. The operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway jointly with Georgian Railways can become an important component of Europe-Central Asia connections. Strengthening and ensuring lasting peace, stability, security, and cooperation between states and peoples, as well as building a prosperous future is the shared responsibility of the international community," Vahagn Khachaturyan stated.
