It was also announced yesterday that the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) had extended the deadline for providing information on Armenian prisoners held in Baku. According to the Armenian Mission for International Legal Affairs, the ECHR extended the deadline on November 7. "According to this, the relevant information from Azerbaijan will be submitted to the European Court by November 18 of this year. Given the above, the Armenian government currently does not have the requested information," the Mission stated. They added that if the Armenian government provides the information being reviewed by the ECHR, it may not be made public.
The exact number of Armenian prisoners of war and hostages held in Azerbaijani prisons is still unknown. Experts estimate the number to be in the hundreds. Azerbaijani authorities currently confirm the presence of 23 Armenians in their custody.
