ArmInfo. All those who commit illegal acts will be held accountable. This was stated by Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, to journalists on November 13, speaking about the detention of Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan, co-authors of the "Imnemnim" podcast, by law enforcement.
According to the Speaker, in addition to emotions and slander, there is also a criminal component, especially when threats are made.
"Yes, according to the law, all those who resort to hooligan behavior and make threats will be punished. And this is not surprising; we will have a completely different social order: we will not resort to stabbings, especially considering that these people are accustomed to living by the laws of the criminal world," the speaker said, pointing to the rise in crime in the country, which is, in part, the result of justifying such behavior. The speaker added that he believes his action in contacting law enforcement was the right one.
The judicial information website Datalex reported that the speaker is demanding that Vazgen Saghatelyan issue a public apology on Facebook within five working days and confiscate 2 million drams for the insults contained in the posts.
As a reminder, early this morning, unknown masked men broke into the homes of Narek Samsonyan and Vazgen Saghatelyan, co-authors of the "Imnemnim" program series, and detained them. Searches are also being conducted at the office of the organization "Antifake." The detainees' lawyer, Ruben Melikyan, reported that they were detained for insulting statements directed at Alen Simonyan.
