ArmInfo.Since 2023, Armenia has undertaken unprecedented defense spending, which has significantly changed our capabilities in terms of army needs, the social welfare of service members, engineering work, and the procurement of weapons and military equipment. Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan made this statement during the question-answer session with the Government on November 12.
He noted that this applies to the period from 2023 to 2025. "That is, all the work done during this period has been possible thanks to funds allocated by the government," Papikyan emphasized. The Minister noted that only at first glance can one see a certain imbalance between the spending for 2025 and 2026. However, in his opinion, everything is more than balanced when comparing the spending planned for 2026 with the recorded figures for 2023 and 2024. "The real imbalance occurred in favor of the Ministry of Defense, since, based on the regional developments at that time, we preferred to carry out future spending in 2025. As a result, this gap is not unusual; it is a natural action taken by a competent government," the Defense Minister noted.
