ArmInfo. The most important foundation for further strengthening relations between Armenia and Serbia is maintaining a genuine sensitivity to each other's national priorities and core interests, as stated by Armenian Ambassador to Serbia Ashot Hovakimyan in an interview with the Serbian magazine Diplomacy and Commerce ahead of his participation in the Euronews Adria Summit, taking place today at the Serbian Palace.
According to the Ambassador, Armenia and Serbia share a long-standing tradition of friendly relations, grounded in common historical experiences and mutual understanding that has stood the test of time. "Our bilateral relations remain warm, although there is considerable scope for expanding cooperation in many areas," Hovakimyan noted. In the context of strengthening this partnership, based on maintaining genuine sensitivity to each other's national priorities and core interests, the Armenian side hopes that Serbia, along with other partners, will unequivocally support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, which "we deeply value."
In the context of the two main issues discussed at the Euronews Adria Summit - the situation in Gaza and the Ukrainian conflict - the Ambassador stated that Armenia consistently supports a two-state solution in the Middle East crisis as the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. Armenia also welcomes the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which ensures the release of hostages and prisoners and provides unrestricted humanitarian access.
"We highly appreciate the mediation efforts of the countries that helped make this possible, as well as President Trump's personal contribution to advancing peace. Armenia was honored to participate in the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit and stands ready to continue working with partners to promote regional stability. Regarding Ukraine, Armenia hopes that the conflict will be resolved through diplomatic dialogue based on mutually acceptable solutions and supports the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine."
It should be noted that the Serbian Ambassador to Armenia, Tatjana Panajotovich Cvetkovic, declined an interview with ArmInfo News Agency regarding the current Armenian-Serbian cooperation, which is facing challenges. The problem is related to the Serbian leadership's one-sided support for Baku's policy. Despite the two nations' excellent historical and cultural traditions, Serbia's role as a major arms supplier to Azerbaijan, influenced by the "carbon factor", is preventing the establishment of a balance of power in the region.
