
ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Armen Mkrtchyan participated in a two-day meeting of the National Security Platform, aimed at facilitating a dialogue between key stakeholders in monitoring the reform process in the Republic of Armenia's security sector.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the meeting was attended by Andranik Kocharyan and Rustam Bakoyan, heads of the National Assembly Committees on Defense and Security, Human Rights Protection, and Public Affairs. Representatives from the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Security Council Staff, the Foreign Intelligence Service, civil society, and international organizations also participated. Andranik Kocharyan presented ongoing reforms in the security sector, touching on existing challenges, advancing the peace agenda through parliamentary oversight, increasing transparency and public participation in defense and security, and developing a new security management culture.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Mkrtchyan presented the reforms being implemented in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subordinate agencies, specifically, the process of establishing municipal police services. He also outlined achievements and ongoing work in specific areas.
Issues related to strengthening professional ethics and integrity in the police system, as well as preventing and combating corruption, were discussed. In the context of law enforcement reform, the importance of ensuring and protecting human rights, democratic oversight, and building public trust was emphasized.
The meeting also presented international approaches to integrated border management in post-conflict situations, particularly issues related to regional security, cooperation, and the protection of human rights, including the rights and security of border residents. The impact of hybrid threats on the stabilization of post-conflict societies, strengthening resilience to hybrid challenges, and information security as a component of national security were discussed.
The event was organized by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, in collaboration with the "Peace Dialogue" NGO, with financial support from the Geneva Centre for Security Affairs (DCAF), international expert support, and cooperation with the OSCE.
