New charges have been filed against former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan, with former Deputy Chief of the General Staff Enrico Apriamov also implicated in the case, as reported by Armenian Public TV, citing the RA Investigative Committee. This time, the former official is accused of abuse of office.
It should be noted that former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan had previously been charged with overthrowing the constitutional order in connection to the events of March 1, 2008. Harutyunyan was remanded in absentia and placed on the international wanted list. During the investigation, it was revealed that Harutyunyan is a Russian citizen and is currently residing in the Russian Federation. The Russian side refused to extradite Harutyunyan to Armenia. In May 2021, the charges against former Armenian Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan were reclassified, now falling under Part 3 of Article 309 of the Armenian Criminal Code instead of the previous Article 300.1.
