ArmInfo. Arrested Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan was transferred back to the Yerevan-Kentron Penitentiary from the hospital, where he had been held since yesterday, his lawyer, Zaruhi Postanjyan, told reporters.
The previous evening, it was reported that Vardan Ghukasyan's health, while being held at the Kentron Penitentiary in Yerevan, had sharply deteriorated around 4:00 PM. He was taken to the St. Grigor Lusavorich Medical Center.
As a reminder, on October 20, eight Gyumri City Hall employees, led by Vardan Ghukasyan, were arrested on charges of large-scale bribery. The latter was arrested on October 21 and given a two-month prison sentence. On October 26, it was announced that Ghukasyan had been charged with another offense: calling for the renunciation of sovereignty for his support of joining the Union State with Russia and Belarus. Earlier, on October 1, in the Armenian parliament, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan accused Ghukasyan of vote-buying and called his election as head of the city administration a misunderstanding, promising to "rectify this situation."
