ArmInfo. The ARF Dashnaktsutyun (ARF) youth movement held a protest outside the Armenian government building in response to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's recent statements made during a meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. Specifically, the Azerbaijani president reiterated the "return of Azerbaijanis to present-day Armenia" and claimed ownership of Armenia's sovereign and historical territories.
During the protest, a member of the youth movement emphasized that the peace agreement reached in Washington is actually a clear example of capitulation. He noted that Azerbaijan's true goals have always been clear: instead of peace, they aim to subordinate Armenia to Azerbaijani interests; instead of mutual respect, they seek conquest; and instead of abandoning aggressive rhetoric, they promote agendas that align with its own interests.
To support their claims, ARF representatives recalled that Azerbaijan still does not recognize Armenia's borders, but instead promotes the concept of a so-called "Western Azerbaijan." Azerbaijani troops remain on Armenia's sovereign territory, and Armenian prisoners of war are being held in Baku. The protesters expressed their belief that Azerbaijan seeks only to limit Armenia's sovereignty.
The protesters brought posters displaying statements by members of the ruling Civil Contract Party, demonstrating how their words support Azerbaijan's interests. They then presented their own versions of statements that could promote Armenian narratives and protect the country's interests. Thus, representatives of the ARF youth wing essentially demonstrated that the current government's inability to protect the country's interests is not due to ignorance or inability, but to a conscious choice. In this regard, the protesters noted that the only solution to the current situation is the resignation of the current government.
