ArmInfo. The Armenian community of Georgia declared the concert in Tbilisi, organized by Azerbaijan to commemorate the anniversary of the 44-day war, unacceptable and called on the Georgian authorities to cancel the event.
"We appeal to the Georgian Ministry of Culture to take into account the fact that the Azerbaijani Embassy is organizing a concert on November 6 entitled "5th Anniversary of Victory Day - November 8." Azerbaijan commemorates this day as the victory in the 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in 2020. The event will be held in the grand hall of the Shota Rustaveli State Academic Theater in Tbilisi, which seats over 700 people. The building was founded by Yesai Pitoyev and supported by philanthropist Alexander Mantashev.
During the 2020 war, thousands of Armenians were killed, many families were destroyed, and 11,458 square kilometers of Artsakh's territory, including the historic city of Shushi, were occupied. For the first time in history, Artsakh was left without Armenians, and the residents of Artsakh were expelled from their ancestral lands. It is unacceptable to celebrate these events as "victory." We express our outrage, as such an event is taking place at a time when... "When thousands of Armenian families continue to suffer the consequences of ethnic cleansing, and a sham trial of civilians and former leaders of a region illegally occupied by Azerbaijan is taking place in Baku. This is a gross violation of international humanitarian law. We are convinced that the Georgian Ministry of Culture, as the body that protects the country's cultural and moral values, must not remain indifferent to such manifestations, as holding such events in Tbilisi contributes to the deepening of interethnic clashes.
We urge you to consider preventing such events from being held in state cultural institutions and to express a position consistent with the spirit of humanism, justice, and respect for human dignity," the statement from the Armenian community of Georgia reads.
