ArmInfo. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan participated in a multilateral panel discussion, "Using Nature-Based Solutions and Traditional Knowledge to Eradicate Poverty," organized by the Armenian Foreign Ministry as part of the Second UN Conference on Social Development. According to the press service of the Armenian President, in his speech, Khachaturyan expressed gratitude to Qatar for providing this platform to discuss the relationship between biodiversity conservation, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
According to him, the most important challenge facing humanity today is overcoming poverty while protecting biodiversity and ecosystems. "To address this challenge, traditional knowledge and natural-based solutions can pave the way for poverty reduction while maintaining a harmonious relationship between people and nature. They serve as a reminder that sustainable development and nature conservation are not contradictions, but two sides of the same coin. It is important to recognize and promote such best practices as effective tools for achieving the goals and objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and for promoting sustainable and prosperous communities," the head of state said.
Khachaturyan added that Armenia, as the host and Chair of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP-17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, is deeply committed to ensuring that this understanding shapes a collective path to translating conservation solutions into global action.
He expressed confidence that by working together to bridge science, innovation, and tradition, biodiversity conservation can become a driving force for social justice and poverty eradication.
