ArmInfo. Armenia's Representative on International Legal Matters, Karen Andreasyan, did not rule out the possibility of withdrawing lawsuits against Azerbaijan from international courts if such a decision is made by the National Assembly or the Constitutional Court. Andreasyan made this statement in a conversation with journalists in the parliament on November 5.
However, according to him, no such discussions or decisions have been made to date. "We work daily to ensure that claims filed in international courts represent our country's interests. And currently, we have no directive or decision to compromise our legal processes. However, if such a decision is made by parliament or the Constitutional Court, we will comply. I hold a position that obliges me to comply with such decisions," Andreasyan stated.
He also assured that if the decision is not in the country's interests, he will resign. "This issue is more political than legal, so it's best to refer it to political figures. Personally, I agree with everything that is done in the interests of our country. However, so far, not a single claim has been withdrawn, and there are no discussions on this issue yet," the Armenian representative on international legal matters assured. Regarding efforts to free Armenian prisoners of war in Baku, he assured that extensive work had been carried out in this direction, including the submission of complaints and statements to international bodies. "That is, a great deal of work had already been done before I assumed this position, so I have nothing to add," he noted.
According to Andreasyan, it is now necessary to await the commencement of other processes, such as court decisions, as well as the development of the peace process with Azerbaijan and the results of the diplomatic work, which, he said, is being carried out by relevant agencies in this area, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
