ArmInfo. The Stepanakert Armenian Drama Theater named after V. Papazyan invites its loyal audience, art lovers, and compatriots from Artsakh to attend its premiere performance, " Artsakh Love Tale." It will take place on November 12 at the Yerevan Theater for Young Spectators (3 Moskovyan Street). It's symbolic that the Stepanakert theater's Yerevan debut will feature a play written by Professor Alexander Manasyan in the Artsakh dialect. This production was the theater's last performance on the Stepanakert stage before the 44-day war.
The production, directed by the theater's artistic director, Ruzan Khachatryan, captures the flavor of Artsakh's creative life through human feelings and sincere love. "Artsakh Love Tale " is a performance designed, even if only for a moment, to return the audience to their lost fairy tale. Our fairy tale may not have been magical, luxurious, or glamorous, but it was ours: simple and pure, beautiful and bright, and most importantly, real. The performance is performed in the Artsakh dialect, with its uniqueness and charm," the play's director notes.
It should be noted that the foundation for the revival of the Stepanakert Armenian Drama Theater named after Vahram Papazyan were laid by a partnership between the DIALOGUE public organization and the Union of Theater Workers of Armenia. The partnership, aimed at the professional restoration of the glorious 93-year-old Artsakh theater and supporting its activities, is outlined in a cooperation agreement between the two organizations, signed by their directors Yuri Navoyan and Hakob Ghazanchyan in August of this year.
For three months now, the theater troupe, which includes Artsakh artists with up to thirty years of stage experience, has been rehearsing in the hall of the Union of Theater Workers of Armenia and the Dialogue Cultural Center. These are artists who captivated audiences on the Stepanakert stage with their talent and spontaneous performances, presenting plays by both Armenian and international playwrights, creating vibrant characters from Onegin to Romeo and Juliet.
Thanks to the support of "DIALOGUE", the company's activities have been established on a permanent basis. Moreover, under the organization's patronage, an Artsakh class has been operating at the Galya Novents Theatre School since September of this year. This will allow the theater to renew its staff with new professionals in the future. Following the current premiere, the theater plans to stage the play "Ruzan" by the Armenian classic, Muratsan.
It is worth noting that the Stepanakert State Armenian Drama Theater, named after Vahram Papazyan, was founded in 1932. During its existence until 2023, the theater staged over 450 performances.
