ArmInfo. A government that acts contrary to its promises to the people has no right to speak on behalf of the people, democracy, and peace. The Civil Contract Party, having switched sides, once again proves its illegitimacy. This is stated in a statement by the Miasin socio- political movement.
The statement notes that the 12th plenary session of the Eastern Partnership Parliamentary Assembly (Euronest), held in Armenia on October 29-30, was the best opportunity to raise, together with colleagues from the European Parliament, two critical issues facing Armenian society. These issues include the immediate release of compatriots who have been victims of illegal trials in Baku prisons and their return to Armenia, as well as the directly related guarantee of the right of the people of Artsakh to the safe return of their occupied homeland under international security guarantees.
"However, the unimaginable has happened: the parliamentary majority of the ruling party in Armenia voted against the proposal of opposition members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and two members of the European Parliament from the Socialist Party. This proposal demanded that Azerbaijan ensure, under international guarantees, the right of our compatriots from Artsakh, victims of ethnic cleansing, essentially genocide, to the safe return to their occupied homeland, Artsakh. The chairman of the NA committee, Arman Yeghoyan, who presented the position of the Civil Contract faction, dealt a conspiratorial blow to our vital national issues. In response to the European members of parliament, who recognized the ethnic cleansing committed by Azerbaijan in Artsakh and adopted a number of resolutions in defense of the rights of the people of Artsakh, he stated verbatim: "The said amendment is as follows: Azerbaijan is called upon to immediately release all Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees. We are not against this, but the continuation is this: to ensure the safe collective return of the forcibly displaced Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to their homeland under international protection. I would like to inform you that the Armenian government and officials responsible for foreign policy do not make such a demand of Azerbaijan." In fact, the "State Duma" "does not magnanimously oppose" the return of all Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees, but together with their government, they cannot demand that Azerbaijan respect the right of return of Armenians who have lived in Artsakh for thousands of years, left behind a vast material, cultural, and spiritual heritage, and survived the genocide. The Miasin socio- political movement once again reminds our compatriots of one of the main provisions of the RA government's program for 2021-2026 from the extensive Section 1.2 "The Karabakh Issue," which allowed party leader Nikol Pashinyan, who took the post of Prime Minister, to retain power: "The Republic of Armenia will continue to be the guarantor of the security of the people of Artsakh and will continue to work to protect the rights of the people of Artsakh." Thus, Nikol Pashinyan's government and parliament "respect and implement" their own program. The government, "Acting contrary to its promises to the people, it has no right to speak on behalf of the people, democracy and peace," the statement reads.
