ArmInfo. By decree of the President of Armenia, 17,180 people received Armenian citizenship in the first nine months of 2025, a 15.5% increase compared to the same period last year. This was announced by Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan at a parliamentary committee meeting on November 3 during the discussion of the draft state budget for 2026.
At the same time, she noted that 3,166 people had their citizenship revoked. This figure also shows an increase of 10.7%. However, the overall figure is dominated by those who received Armenian citizenship.
The minister noted that planned crimes constitute a very small percentage during this period. "The Republic of Armenia doesn't stand out in terms of statistics on organized and planned serious crimes. In our statistical picture, only a very small percentage of crimes are planned. In general, in the overall picture of murders, we observe cases that are the continuation of a quarrel that arose under the influence of one moment or another," Sargsyan assured.
She also touched on the incident between a journalist and a member of a special forces unit, who not only pushed the media representative away but also used force against her. Sargsyan noted that the police officer in question has been fired, and a criminal case has been opened regarding the incident. Overall, the minister noted, Armenia is a democratic state, and any illegal actions must be considered within the legal framework.
Responding to questions from opposition MPs, the minister emphasized that the police have taken and will continue to take the necessary steps to maintain public order in the church in the village of Hovhannavank, if necessary.
