ArmInfo. Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev explained the reasons for Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev's non-attendance at the European Political Community (EPC) summit in Yerevan on May 4, 2026.
Hajiyev told Azerbaijani media that, firstly, an official invitation letter for the Azerbaijani president to participate in the EPC summit, which will be held in Yerevan, has not yet been received.
"Secondly, under the current circumstances, we do not believe that Azerbaijan's participation in this event at the highest level will be possible," Hajiyev said, adding that the level of relations between the countries is not yet at the same level. Earlier, an Azerbaijani media outlet, citing a diplomatic source, reported that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev does not plan to participate in the European Political Community (EPC) summit, which will be held in Armenia in May 2026. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan previously told reporters that the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Ilham Aliyev, have been invited to Yerevan for the EPC summit, which will be held on May 4, 2026.
