


ArmInfo. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan chaired a consultation to discuss the process of reforms in the personal data protection system. According to PM's office, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan presented detailed information on the areas and objectives of the Personal Data Protection Agency, addressing key issues and challenges in the field of personal data protection.
Given the existing challenges and the need for reform, a concept for the creation of a new independent authorized body for personal data protection was presented, based on the improvement of the current legislation and practices. It was emphasized that the reforms being implemented will also contribute to the fulfillment of Armenia's international obligations, including in the framework of the EU visa liberalization process. Srbuhi Galyan noted that, in developing the concept, the experience of other countries was also studied, along with other analyses. The meeting participants discussed issues related to the action plan for implementing the concept, including needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, and the drafting of legislative packages.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of creating an authorized body for personal data protection in line with international standards, ensuring operational and institutional independence. According to the Head of State, this should improve the level of protection of the right to personal data, facilitate the development of professional capabilities, and raise public awareness about personal data protection.
