The European Union supports the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and provides open support to lead the region toward sustainable peace, prosperity, and development, as stated in a message from Kaja Kalas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to the participants of the 12th plenary session of the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly in Yerevan, read by Audrone Perkauskine, Deputy Director of the EU External Action Service.
"We also have a success story for Armenia and Azerbaijan. The historic step taken in Washington on August 8 has brought the region closer to stability and long-term peace. We support the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and provide open support for guiding the region toward sustainable peace, prosperity, and development," the message reads.
According to Kallas, the ongoing normalization process promises to open up unprecedented economic opportunities. "The current normalization process promises to open unprecedented economic opportunities, open borders, and establish cross-border connections. This will also strengthen people-to-people contacts and trust," the EU High Representative noted.
She also touched on the strengthening of relations between Armenia and the European Union. "Recent developments in bilateral relations show that Armenia is coming closer to us with its values and democratic principles," Kallas's message reads.
