ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities' most important and top priority task is to create a secure and peaceful environment around the country, as stated by RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on October 27 during the debates on the draft state budget for 2026.
Mirzoyan highlighted the importance of this environment for Armenia's development, particularly in terms of normalizing relations with Azerbaijan and their further institutionalization. In this context, Mirzoyan pointed to a key event in the United States this year, where the Declaration on the End of Military Conflict was signed on August 8 and the agreement between Yerevan and Baku on the establishment of peace and interstate relations was initialed. Mirzoyan described these documents signed in Washington as a turning point, without downplaying the work that had been done previously. "As a result, peace was established between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the parties committed to mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity, political independence, and recognition of borders within the framework of the Almaty Declaration. As part of these agreements, the process of unblocking communications in the region began," the Armenian Foreign Minister said.
He emphasized the importance of making all the signed documents public, especially in light of the misinformation being spread about the agreements reached. Mirzoyan also pointed out that the unblocking of communications in the region is a large-scale undertaking. Armenia had been under a blockade for over 30 years, and now the two countries have agreed to unblock the region. "First and foremost, we are discussing the unblocking of Armenia, as well as the Nakhchivan-Azerbaijan connection. Moreover, the infrastructure passing through Armenia will be operated by the Republic of Armenia. This connection can be used not only for the construction of a railway, but also for electrical cables, gas supply systems, oil pipelines, and telecommunications," the Minister noted. He expressed optimism about the agreements reached, expressing hope for the rapid achievement of significant results in this area.
