ArmInfo. The Yerevan Municipality is working on several fronts to resolve the situation with the Nubarshen landfill. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced this during a briefing on October 23.
He said that two tenders have been announced for companies with experience in constructing and managing a waste recycling plant.
Additionally, discussions are underway with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and international financial partners on this matter. "We are working towards finding a way to achieve this goal. And we will take the path that will allow us to achieve this goal faster and efficiently," the mayor noted. Avinyan explained that the partners are also tasked with developing a new program for the pre- processing of the existing landfill.
Referring to the recent fire in Nubarashen, the mayor noted that the mayor's office has terminated the contract with the private company that managed the landfill. These responsibilities have now been transferred to the mayor's office, which has tightened controls. Specifically, Avinyan noted that a video surveillance system has been installed in the area, and restrictions on entry have been implemented.
"A few days before the incident, certain people were talking about something significant to happen at the landfill soon," he noted, while mentioning the presumption of innocence.
