ArmInfo. Azerbaijan's decision to lift restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia demonstrates the established peace between the two countries, as stated by Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, in a conversation with journalists on October 22.
He expressed confidence that there will be no shortage of such bilateral steps in the near future. "I welcome the statement by the President of Azerbaijan on this issue. There are still some issues, and we hope for their speedy resolution," the Speaker said.
Addressing the issue of Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku prisons, Simonyan assured that this topic is always present, including during the Speaker's most recent meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Sahiba Gafarova. Furthermore, as the Speaker of the National Assembly noted, he has raised the issue of Armenian prisoners at the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting. Overall, the Speaker praised his meeting with Gafarova, with one of the main topics of conversation being the two countries' parliaments' assistance in preparing the Armenian and Azerbaijani publics for peace. "My impression is that my Azerbaijani counterpart also has a similar perception of the further development of the peace agenda. We had a very warm meeting, and we agreed to discuss mechanisms for cooperation, and this is not a long-term perspective. The parties believe that all of this must be done as quickly as possible and on a larger scale," Simonyan noted, adding that the Azerbaijani side has once again assured that it does not intend to resort to any military action against Armenia.
